What are your challenges in Primary?

To get started with the postings, think about what your challenges are. The idea is that as you reply to this post, with your challenges. Others will comment on your challenges and give you ideas on how to address them. This way we can have a discussion on things that we can do to make our Primaries stronger, and our children.

  1. I think that one of our challenges in the Davie Ward is holding a weekly Presidency meeting. Sometimes we only meet once in a month, if that. How do all of you schedule and hold Presidency meetings?

  2. We hold meetings every other week. I try really hard to keep them to one hour (I send out the agenda before the meeting). We meet during the day because none of my presidency works. In between meetings, we communicate by telephone and email.

  3. Courtney, why is it important for you to have weekly meetings? What are some of the things that you are trying to accomplish?
At times if you plan at least 3 months ahead together as a presidency, a formal monthly meeting will suffice and you will see how much you can get done. As long as you are keeping in touch with each other weekly, and following the plan you have set up together, things will go well. Make sure that on your plan, responsibilities have been shared and that everyone knows what they are supposed to be doing.

  4. It's hard for us to get together once a month, all at one time. We shot for once a month and if that dowesn't work out we communicate as often as needed, by email, phone calls or my favorite tex messing. I would really like to get more organized and just can't seem to accomplish that. Someone please tell me how you study for you lessons, i.e when, where or how far in advanced.

  5. Vee, I usually start preparing my lesson for the next Sunday on Sunday when I get home from church. If you read over the lesson then you are able to brainstorm on the things you need or the things that you want to add to your lesson. I usually finish my lesson preparations by Friday night that way when I read over it on Saturday I am able to still run out and get something if I have forgotten it. It doesn't work every week, but I have noticed if I don't prepare ahead of time I am preparing on Sunday morning and that isn't too spiritual for the kids.

  6. I've had all intentions in the world to start my studies at least 1 week in advance and get side-tracked everytime or simply procrastinate. I've decided when we have our monthly meeting, we take 10 montues or so to go over our lesson. This way we and our lessons have to be ready for our meeting, even if our lesson is weeks away. And we can help each other at that time with ideas as needed. So no more procrastinating! I really want to do better for the children this year. These children are precious clay in our hands.

  7. I just discovered a great tool available on LDS.org that gives ideas for sharing time on sunday. There is an idea for every class of the month. Go to LDS.org and click on Serving in the Church then click on Primary. Click on 2009 Outline then scroll down to the "other materials" section. Right now they have January and February ideas posted. I think this is great and will begin using it in my ward. Unfortunately its only in english and my counselors only speak spanish. Luckily we have the google translator that helps.
